Clay  is magic for me, an exploration of the material, a
search for the emotional state of the work, the direct
expression of my hands in a malleable responsive material.
Over the years my work has encompassed functional
ceramics, an exploration of the box form and the application
of oriental brush painting.  Recently , however, my interest in
how faces convey one's inner thoughts, influenced my years
as a Forensic Social Worker working in Riker's Island Prison,
has come front and center.  Working from behind the slab, I
allow the face to emerge from the clay unmarked with
fingerprints, tool marks or the presence of the potter.  My
hope is that the faces will speak directly and spontaneously
to the viewer.  Achieving a balance of material, process and
idea is always a gamble.
The pieces on view here are Raku glazed and fired.  Other
work is completed in a high fire reduction process (not shown
here).  Please feel free to contact me if you would like further
information.
