In 1990 I lived in Japan for 2 1/2 years, teaching Japanese students in an American College setting.
During that time, I first experienced the joy of making functional pottery with Japanese Ceramic
artists. It was frustrating, difficult and consuming! Since returning from Japan, I have attended
classes, workshops, forums, and demonstrations in efforts to hone my craft, making functional
everyday pottery with a sense of style and finesse. I strive to present to the viewer and user the
delights of having a well made piece of pottery to serve both aesthetic and functional needs. I have
always been a craftsman, building, repairing, tweaking and experimenting with many materials,
including wood, clay and even constructing cars. My work aims to be unique and pleasing in form
(shape), have a sense of style, look attractive to the eye, and be comfortable to use. My goal is to
present a distinctive piece of pottery that the user will consider to be special.
